Heckford Norton was founded in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire in 1919 by Mr Harry Heckford. From the outset, the firm distinguished itself through its adoption of modern business methods. In 1923, it became one of the first firms to employ the then-revolutionary cylinder-type Dictaphones. In 1958, our Stevenage office opened. Following that, in 1969, the firm acquired the Saffron Walden office, with a legal history dating back to 1806.

Our Stevenage office is located at Tudor House in Stevenage Old Town, a building dating from the late 15th or early 16th century. It was originally a Tudor hall and has many medieval building features. Despite its historic features, the building remains well suited to modern office needs.

We are accredited by the Law Society under its Conveyancing Quality Scheme and Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme. The firm is also a member of the Panel of Solicitors for the National Free Wills Network and the Law Society’s Family Law Advanced panel. In addition, we are pleased to be members of Resolution, which promotes a non-confrontational and constructive approach to resolving family and matrimonial disputes.
